in my last post i was talking bout being a child and hw it was great!!
so what is the one thing i rmembr lots bout being a kid,oh yes those partyss, from being a diddy little one to growing up to the cool partys i rmembr them all,i alos thought of this because i went onto the foodie blogs scene of course and found a event called blog party i think it was where the theme was kiddy food.
oh it was always great wasnt it,i cnt remembr much from beinga child bt what i can rmebr is the food at partys and a few tihngs that went on,like popel falling asleep in the cakes and me scaring my nxt door neighbour as i swung from our slimbing fram like a monkey.
when i was yonuger the parties always seemed to be based outside in our garden, usually with a few people from around the area.wheni was little i was lucky because my best friend lived jst down the road frm us,and now i say that my sisters did two jst a few doors down from that!!so they always came and a few relatives sometimes popped in to squidge faces and such htings.
in the garden there would also be another thing which i can remebr, whic hwas the tent, oh the tent this little thing that i wish we could bring out nw..haha..it was built with those thin black plastic pole and covered with jst simply sloth like stuff that has a painted door and window in it that lifted up like a flap...then there was the food, there was always the cake, im nt sure when it started or whether it was a must because i have a sneaky supicion of a memory that there was a few store bough little cakes in there somewhere, but from a certian age i can always remebr mum making our cakes, every single one of them and the great thing was,as we got older wegot to request what we wanted on them, ones i remembr are, the peter rabbit one, the little mermaid, there were a few different version some with her on it and one with the yellow fish and crab i think, the thomas the tank engine one for same of course, the caterpillar ones were chukced in somteims too often when we had two parties, one for us fmaily and one for when the friends came, so actually maybe i am dissing my mother and she always made a cake jst bought one when we had the other party with friends, there was the bright yellow onewith the well on it and like a meadow with flower surrounding it,the ones that looked like those proffesisonal ones wit the simple name on it,simple one with flowers and teddys on them, winnie the poo plenty of variations on this one too!!it was nevr usually a chocoalte one though,we went for the very particular tradiotional looks of perfectly made sponge with jam and buttercream, surrounded in fondant smoothed down to make that babys bum feel fnish. my mum usued to make cakes often adn was and still is the master at it, i sometimes feel bad because i thik she would still love to do it mre bt is so busy and also i love baking nw too and can do them mre than she can with all the time i have on my hands.she can find and make ideas for cake like a dog can work finding shit to roll in wherever it is walking lol!!she even got to the point where others always asked her to mkae the cakes too, like weddings, big party bashed, christenings and all such things, she started an album of her ventoured and its sad to see the pictures slowly stop as other grew old enough to do the cakes for there sisters or there came mre shops out there that did them for there friends and things.she loved doing proffesional type cakes too me thinks because t gave her the oppurntunity to have marziapn, coz us kiddies dnt like the stuff it was nvr aloowe don birthday cakes.she still does our chrismtas cakes too actually, making them allfrom scratch and then icing them, thise time with different icing still, the royal ising type which she can mix by hand like a beast until it gets stiff.
i also remembr birthday cakes being made maybe because of the picking of the fonanat icing, i was addicted to the stuff, no no really i actually loved it, the only bit that got me was the tingly feeling it gave me as the sugar creeped up into the brain when id clearly had enough lol.we used to sit and watch mum then must have pissed her off so much as we picked at the icing and then waited(after the'get off and wait')until the end so we could pick at the remains of the cutting and then, sneaking into the cupbarods to find the big ball left-over,wrapped in foil in the cupbards, there was no hiding this stuff i mean when you open the cupbaords and there is fondant icing inside the wiff of sweetness that come sout gives it away at once.sorry mum a kids nos is a sugar infested finder one!!the colour in the fondant was always rolled in too nvr stored bought colour.
and to the res of the feast in the garden, we were lucky because our birthdays our all together around the summer time so we could usually have a little tea party in the sun, good photo op too nothing bettr than sunshine lighting little peoples faces.there was always party rings i no that for sure, you know those little golden rings of biscuits with the oh so artifial icing on top with different colours string ing through it.there was the bowlsof crips and some which were always the same until actually the same as they are now(yes mum syas what shall we have for tea on our birthdays and we always say'brthday tea mum, come on' it still also consists of the birthday rings, the white and brown rolls(the nice ones)with butter and ham, sometimes cheese, the pots of colelaw mainly forthe adults i think as kids are fussy with that sutff somteims eh mum!!,there was sometimes even a few pizzas thrown in the oven and sliced up,the pop of all types fanta, ribena, coke, lemonde, sprite u no the stuff, doritos and dips, walker crips, hoola hoops, sqaures and pringles too,the cadburs chocolate fingers laid on a plate in a sprial, mini rolls, kit -kats,oh and of course mothers best and requested by lots krispy cake, which went within miutes no mtatter who came,..its too sweet and sticky but irrisistable once you have ur first bite, there were other tit bits that came and went ovr the yrs too, the odd sausage roll here or, trifle there u no the kinda party food.and it was all liad nicely with napkins and plates, in whiker baskets with ballons and 'happy birthday confettie'ehe i loved and still loved birthdays, though they do wavour sometimes nowadays as we are all oldies compared to then lol!!,liking friends time and going out mre often... bt of course there was then the cakes which we all new was there but still had to be done in a different room with the designated cnadle light(why did we arge bout who would get to light them so much borther and sister?) then brought in to the gathering of faces including the birthday boy or girl, singing as you enter 'happy birthday' then the famous photo with everyone in(the seonond one too because we 'werent smiling on the first one'or'eyes were squiffy'on the first one lol!!
oh how kiddies tea party were great and how great it is some tradiotoins still follow through to today.i dnt want them to evr stop bt i think they wil soon to be honest we're getting told old and busy.
as we got older though parties were different very different,we got more friends we went out to organized parties, like quasar, bowling and things like that,we dressed to impress the boys that we were cool enough to invite,we had to have the biggest choc cake to beat the friends one,and we had to have things orgnazed too, like dressing up as older girls!!or maybe pass the parcel or simone says before we got too old for that.
it will all come in part two lol this post is too long for nw,and when you split things up they can seem less boring coz clicking down to the nxt one makes u breathe and get ready to read the nct part lol!!
